Currency Redesign
For this assignment, the class was asked and tasked to combine images with text in order to quickly communicate a concept and story to those who would hypothetically use these bills. These users would not just glance at the bills I have designed would not just skim the look and information of these bills but engage with them as engaged story participants.

My concept of choice for the bills was a hypothetical currency to be used aboard the International Space Station.
(Above images) Final currency designs
We were to choose a location for the currency redesigns, such as countries, theme parks, national areas, etc. that uses custom designed currency. Then we had to find and focus on a story that is different from the current focus of the currency. Then we had to work towards producing three front and back bills that could and would be widely recognizable by the currency’s user base.
The project was kicked off by thinking of settings to create a system of currency for. We would then move forward by creating a moodboard, a type of collage consisting of images, text, and samples of objects, for each currency concept imagined. Based on group feedback, the setting for our bill was decided on, and we began the early design phases by playing with what graphic styles could be utilized for the bills, and what information the bills could and should have based on the setting they are based in.We experimented with different patterns that could be used to add depth and legitimacy to our designs before producing the final versions.
Moodboards- exploring early concepts
For my final designs, I decided to use simpler but eye-catching graphics to engage users with the bills. Because the ISS is an international entity, I could not use one language or even number system. To work around this, I used a system of icons to represent information such as the source of the currency, currency amount, and more, keeping all information easy and simple to find and balancing it with the bills’ designs.
